Verification Strategy for a 5G Connected World
Jordan Liang - Cadence Design Systems, Inc.
Jing Guo - Cadence Design Systems, Inc.
Simon Chang - Cadence Design Systems, Inc.

5G performance goals challenge the communications industry, with specific demands resulting from use of the millimeter wave (mmWave) radio frequency spectrum for both handsets and infrastructure. Designs need several system architecture changes to enable 5G edge computing in backhaul, and optical fronthaul. The 5G vision includes very high data rates, very high connected-device count, very low latency, very high reliability and security, and long battery life.

5G combines fixed, mobile, optical, microwave, and IP transport technologies to deliver ultra-dense, high-capacity, low-latency connectivity. The workshop will address on the verification strategy to fulfill the requirement of 5G design, especially on the Modem SoC design to connect the SW users and 5G tester instruments. The Emulation Platform is essential for emulating the design before the chip is finalized. Chip designs can be prototyped using the  FPGA-Based Prototyping Platform, which enables early software validation and firmware development. The entire Verification Suite speeds chip verification, and the signal integrity (SI) and power integrity (PI) integrated solutions enable fast validation of packages and board.
